Renault’s Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) automatic transmission is now available on the Kangoo small range for the first time. The gearbox will be offered on the dCi 90 and dCi 110 versions of the van.

The EDC transmission, which is already available across Renault’s passenger vehicle range, has been introduced in order to offer Kangoo drivers a more car-like experience behind the wheel.

The six-speed EDC is an automatic dual dry clutch transmission, which dispenses with the need for a clutch pedal. An electronic control unit selects the ideal gear automatically, while a push forward on the gear level directs the transmission to downshift, and a pull backwards to upshift.

Renault claims that the automatic mode makes for a smoother journey, and that the transmission’s ‘creep’ control will make life easier in crawling traffic. While the EDC automatic transmission does add 28kg in weight compared to the automatic, the dCi 90 EDC achieves fuel economy of up to 55.4mpg on the combined cycle and emits just 136g/km of CO2. The Kangoo dCi 90 EDC is priced from £21,805. Orders for the newly available transmission opened September 1st.
